This past weekend we had a chance to attend the newest puppet performance at Center for Puppetry Arts. Space! is the newest puppet show by STEM Initiative where kids will blast off into the space and learn about the galaxy and universe.
In space, no one can hear you… learn! Blast off on a galactic journey with a rocking band of extraterrestrial musicians. Discover out-of-this-world facts about planets, stars, meteors and more. They can feel the gravitational pull with Sir Isaac Newton, gaze at Saturn’s rings with Galileo, and rock out on the asteroid belt. Ever wonder what fuels the sun or where the planets got their names? Find out in this galactic trip filled with cosmic special effects and an eclectic musical score fit for a universe as vast and diverse as our own.
The Space! at Center for Puppetry Arts show is great for school-age kids who start to learn about space. My daughter was proudly named each planet in the solar system along with the extraterrestrial host, Ot and Eema. For parents of younger kids, the show has a lot of flashing light and strobe light so you might want to hold them tight just in case they get scared. But during the time that we watched the performance, kids of all ages were captured by this fun, engaging and educating casts of rod puppet, shadow puppet and blacklight puppet that I never heard any kid cry.
What I love about watching a performance at the Center of Puppetry Arts is that after the show, kids will actually get to meet the team behind the show. They came out and explained how each type of the puppet work. It helped answer my son’s question whether this is a movie or this is real!
After the show, we headed to the puppet museum to learn more about puppets from around the world. Don’t forget to pick up the scavenger hunt worksheet to add more fun during your tour. Up next, we went upstairs to the puppet workshop (you can certainly do this before the show). It’s one of our kids’ favorite activity because they have something to bring home and for us it saves us from spending money buying souvenir.
With affordable ticket price, it’s a great way to spend a fun day together as a family. Also consider becoming a member to get even more discount for the ticket cost.
