I truly adore ice cream. And truth be told, while most people reserve ice cream for a summer treat, I could eat it in the dead of winter. I just snuggle under heavy blankets and dig in!!
There is a problem with ice cream though—it tends to be made with quite a few artificial ingredients and preservatives. And as much as I love ice cream, I would rather not fill my body up with those chemicals, especially since I try to find the excuse to eat ice cream on a regular basis!! So I am always on a mission for ice cream that is pure and natural.
I had found it in Ohio, where I grew up. It was Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. Jeni’s statement on their ice cream is “We build our ice creams from the ground up with milk from grass-grazed cows and whole ingredients that we blend, bake, peel, chop, skin, pulverize, and blowtorch ourselves. We use no flavorings, chemical dyes, or off-the-shelf ice cream mixes. We cut no corners, we take no shortcuts. We never have, we never will.”
Yes, that is amazing but what is even better—it is crazy delicious and has the most outrageous, creative, and scrumptious flavors I have ever experienced with ice cream!!
It crushed me to leave the Columbus area in Ohio and lose Jeni’s. Every time I went back to Ohio to visit family, I was sure to stop into the store and enjoy. And on those occasions when I am not able to make it into the actual Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams to indulge in my favorite creamery concoctions; I am sure to grab a pint from my parent’s local grocery store. And then secretly eat it in a closet so I would not have to share!
Well, there is no reason for me to lament losing Jeni’s anymore!! They have opened a store down here in Atlanta!!! OH HAPPY DAY for me and for you—I promise.
So why should you immediately stop what you are doing right this second and rush down to the Jeni’s location in the Westside Provisions on Howell Mill road? Well, how does Salty Caramel or Brambleberry Crisp sound? What about “The Buckeye State,” which highlights the perfect combination of chocolate and peanut butter? Or one of my new favorites, “Saison with Sunflower Seeds and Flax,” which showcases Rockmill brewery beer and is packed with salty sunflower seed and flax. It is AMAZING! If these insane flavor combinations have not convinced you yet, please know that Jeni’s Ice Creams features extensive flavors, that you can find listed on their website and you can sample the flavors before committing to a choice. And it will be hard to limit yourself!
