Guide to Christmas Tree Farms in Atlanta: Where to Cut Your Own Christmas Trees

Christmas Tree Farms in Atlanta

Some of my most vivid memories as a child were the adventures with my parents to cut our own tree. I do not use the word ‘adventures’ lightly.  One year we ended up in the bed of a flat bed truck as the owner drove us up the side of the mountain.  As a kid I thought it was amazing and I giggled and screamed as we held on for dear life.  Now looking back on the event through my ‘mom goggles’, I wonder how my Mom ever let us on that truck.  We also made dear friends.  Whether they know it or not, they left a lasting impression on the heart of my family.  The Purcell Family in Clarkesville, Ga, was who we often times got our trees from.  I loved getting to see Mr. Purcell every year.  He tolerated my quest for the perfect tree, which often involved pleas with him to let us buy ones he had marked as off-limits.  Yes, my thirst for the large perfectly coifed tree often led to me begging him for the ones they groomed to line their driveway.  One year , dear Mr. Purcell gave into my Christmas tantrum and allowed us to purchase one of their personal trees.  Maybe my eyes were a little big, because the back deck of my parents house collapsed as they tried to bring that monster up the back steps and into the living room that had the vaulted ceilings.  Minus a few scrapes, my parents were not hurt.  It certainly makes for great stories and even better memories.

For those who love fresh cut Christmas tree, we have put together a guide to find where to buy fresh Christmas tree at local Christmas tree farms in and around Atlanta metro area.

**This is dedicated to the memory of Mr. Ben Purcell, who passed away on April 2, 2013.  Not only did he add to the Christmas magic of this little girl, but he spread the holiday cheer to so many families.  It is hard to imagine that same man was once held as a POW.  Thank you Mr. Purcell for your service to our country and the many warm childhood memories of Christmas past.**
