I couldn’t believe that we are already in September. Fall is soon to be here. I love Fall! And if you are one of many families who decide to stay close to home in Atlanta or come to visit the great city of Atlanta, don’t worry that you will be bored at home watching TV. I have rounded up 5 fun, family friendly and most of them are FREE festivals or things to do with kids around metro Atlanta.
1. Arts on the Creek @ Johns Creek
This Music & Arts festival is hosted by Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce. The festival is a fun family friendly filled with performances, art exhibits and children activities. And if your kids are up for it after a fun day, there is an entertainment and family movie on Saturday night from 7:30pm-10:30pm.

2. Art in the Park @ Marietta
Explore fine art shows from over 100 artists whose works ranging from painting, photography, pottery, sculpture, jewelry and much more. Let the inner artist in you and your kids shine at the Interactive Art Alley full of many wonderful and free make and take art stations. Also check out the Marietta Cityscape Project to design your own piece of the town using boxes, paper towel rows, paper bags, paints, construction paper and other recyclable materials.

3. The 2009 AJC Decatur Book Festival @ Decatur
Meet your favorite authors, check out various children activities, listen to the Live music performed by nationally touring musicians, watch Cooking demonstrations by noted cookbook authors and enjoy food and beer from local vendors. This is a Bookzilla size festival that will entertain the whole family.

4. Dragon Con Parade @ Downtown Atlanta
You don’t have to be a geek to enjoy the Dragon Con parade. This annual convention is one of the biggest fantasy and sci-fi convention in the country. If your kids love Star Wars like my kids, they will probably enjoy this parade. Head downtown to watch the parade in the early Saturday morning and have a chance to interaction with almost-real costume. Beware that some costume might be more realistic than a little one can handle. Use your parental guidance and judgement call on this one.

5. Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival @Pine Mountains – Callaway Gardens
If you are looking for a quick getaway that doesn’t involve a really long drive from Atlanta, Callaway Gardens will fit the bill perfectly. Plus this weekend, you will get to enjoy the Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival.
After a fun day at the gardens, you can enjoy the view of sky filled with colorful hot air balloon. Between the launch you can also enjoy wide range of entertainments, family activities, music, exhibits and demonstrations.
