2012 Summer Reading Programs for Kids – National & Local Atlanta Area

Summer Reading Program is  a great way to spend time during summer without breaking a bank and a wonderful way to encourage kids to read all summer long.

Also most of the summer reading program will have prizes (mostly FREE book) as a reward at the end of the program.

So go on and collect all those passports to track their summer reading and enjoy free books at the beginning of the new school year.

There are various programs around town from public libraries to book stores. Please let me know if I miss any programs in or around Atlanta.

2012 Summer Reading Programs in Atlanta Area Public Library

Atlanta-Fulton Public Library: “Dream BIG, Read” Summer Reading Program 2012

WHERE: Atlanta-Fulton Public Libraries

WHAT: All summer, the Atlanta Fulton branch libraries will provide a wide variety of books and reading materials, feature storytelling hours, puppet shows or music presentations that stimulate children’s creativity and help bring literature and language to life: and promote the idea of reading  for enjoyment. Complete the reading record with at least 10 books, books can be from the library or anywhere! Return the record to the public library and receive an OFFICIAL READING CERTIFICATE.

 

Clayton County Public Library: “Dream Big, Read!” Summer Reading Program 2012

WHERE: Clayton County Public Library

WHAT: From May 19 – August 4, 2012, read 18 books or for 12 hours to earn a free book! Participate in this free program encouraging young people to read and listen to books for fun. Pick up a reading log at the public library to keep track of your reading. Visit the library weekly to select a fun incentive. Reading may be done anywhere: home, school, vacation, etc. All programs, materials, and incentives are FREE! The Summer Reading Program and weekly incentives officially end on August 4. However, you may still register, and/or bring reading folders back to the library through August 31. You will receive a free book once you’ve read either 18 books, or have read for 12 hours during the summer.

 

Cobb County Public Library: “Dream Big, Read!” Summer Reading Program 2012

WHERE: Cobb County Public Library

WHAT: Adults, bring your little ones by any Cobb County Public Library System branch to pick up a reading folder after June 1. Record what your child reads over the summer, and then bring the child and their completed folder back on or before July 31st to claim their certificate! The library has partnered with Stevi B’s to offer free pizza to the first 5,000 children who bring their folder back to the library. The coupons expire July 31st, so bring your child and their reading log in for a mid-term checkup after July 4 to pick up their pizza coupon. Each child who completes the Summer Reading Program will be entered to win the iPad 2. Ask a staff member at your favorite Cobb County Public Library System branch for more details!

 

DeKalb County Public Library: “Dream Big, Read!” Summer Reading Program 2012

WHERE: DeKalb County Public Library

WHAT: The 2012 Vacation Reading Program is from May 26 to July 31! The theme is Dream Big READ!. See the full list of programs we have scheduled for you this summer! Dream Big READ! is for children ages 3 to 12. Sign up at any DeKalb County Public Library branch and receive a reading log, bookmark and sticker. Sign up online and print out a reading log. Bring your reading log to the library to receive your bookmark and sticker. Earn raffle tickets for hours read/and or literacy activities completed. Complete top half of the reading log and receive a certificate, a tattoo, and a raffle ticket. Complete bottom half of the reading log and receive a bag and a raffle ticket. Children can continue reading for additional raffle tickets

 

Douglas County Public Library: “Dream Big, Read!” Summer Reading Program 2012

WHERE: Douglas County Public Library

WHAT: The children’s programs of the Douglas County Public Libraries are free and full of fun! We offer an open invitation to Moms, Dads, Grandparents, Home Schoolers, and Children of all ages to come participate. We include music, finger plays, and rhymes with our stories. Fayette County Public Library: “Dream Big, Read!” Summer Reading Program 2012

WHERE: Fayette County Public Library

WHAT: Participating in our reading program is easy. All you have to do to register is pick up one of our reading logs. On one side you can track amount of time that you read, and on the other side you can choose from a variety of extra activities to get you reading and thinking! Read for at least 10 hours over the summer to earn a certificate and goody bags. Do at least 8 extra activities to earn a special glow-in-the dark prize! The program runs from Jun 1-July 31, 2012

 

Forsyth County Public Library: “Dream Big, Read!” Summer Reading Program 2012

WHERE: Forsyth County Public Library

WHAT: The information is coming soon for the Kids’ Summer Reading Incentive program for 2012 – “Dream Big, Read!” Summer Reading Program. So far we only have the registration date of the program from May 25 – July 31, 2012.

 

Gwinnett County Public Library: Summer Reading Program 2012

WHERE: Gwinnett County Public Libraries

WHAT: All summer, the Gwinnett County branch libraries will provide a wide variety of books and reading materials, feature storytelling hours, puppet shows or music presentations that stimulate children’s creativity and help bring literature and language to life: and promote the idea of reading  for enjoyment. Children can register to the Summer Reading Program 2012 online or in-person at the library. They can set their own reading goal. Once complete, the library will send the information to their schools (if the schools are participated). There will be prizes and grand prizes drawing for different age group.
